Made Here, Fitted Here

Roller shades, solar shades, custom drapery and motorized systems — measured, made and fitted by the same people, not ordered in from a warehouse.
Local Conditions
Built for San Diego Windows
Window coverings have to work harder here than they do inland, and differently.
01 West-facing glare
Homes in La Jolla, Point Loma, Del Mar and Coronado take direct afternoon sun straight off the water. A 3% or 5% openness solar shade cuts the glare and the heat while keeping the view you paid for. A blackout roller in the same window throws that view away.
02 Salt air
Anything west of the 5 needs hardware chosen to resist corrosion. We specify coastal installations differently, because a mechanism that seizes in three years is not a saving.
03 Wide sliders
San Diego floor plans open to the outside — twelve-foot sliders, stacked glass, tall openings above stairwells. These are the windows where motorization stops being a luxury and becomes the only sensible way to operate a shade twice a day.
04 Year-round sun
There is no off-season here. Fade protection on hardwood, rugs and furniture is a working requirement twelve months a year, not something you think about in July.
Solar Shades
Cut the glare. Keep the view.
Openness factor is the whole decision. A 1% shade gives you the most privacy and the least view. A 10% gives you the most view and the least glare control. Most San Diego living rooms land at 3% or 5%.
We bring the actual fabrics to your house and hold them against your actual window, at the hour of day the room is worst. That is the only way to choose properly.

The windows you would never reach
A twelve-foot slider, a clerestory above a stairwell, a bank of west-facing glass that all needs to move at once. These are the openings where a Somfy motor stops being a luxury item and becomes the only sensible way to run the room.
One remote, one app, or a schedule that closes the west side at four o’clock without anyone touching anything.

Questions
San Diego, Answered
Do you serve all of San Diego County?
Yes. Blinds & Shades Depot provides custom roller shades, solar shades, drapery and motorized systems throughout San Diego County — homeowners, offices and designers alike. Wherever you are in the county, we offer in-home consultation, professional measurement and expert installation.
Where is your San Diego location?
7919 Silverton Avenue, Suite 401, San Diego, CA 92126, in Miramar. Call (619) 770-8300.
Are you an authorized Somfy dealer?
Yes. We hold Somfy’s highest certifications for residential and commercial installations, which covers motor programming, smart home integration and warranty service.
How long does a custom order take?
Most orders are ready to install two to three weeks after measurement.
Which shades work best for coastal homes?
For west-facing rooms in La Jolla, Del Mar, Point Loma and Coronado we usually recommend solar shades at 3% or 5% openness, which cut glare and heat without closing off the view. For bedrooms we pair those with a blackout roller on a dual bracket. Coastal installations also get hardware chosen to stand up to salt air.
Do you work with HOA requirements?
Yes. Many planned communities specify a uniform exterior appearance for window coverings. We handle those requirements as part of the consultation.
Do you offer blackout options for bedrooms?
Yes. Blackout roller shades, and side channels where a room needs full darkness.
Which one are you actually solving?
Three jobs. Three different fabrics.
Almost every call we take is one of these three. They are not interchangeable, and the mistake that costs the most money is buying the fabric for one job and expecting it to do another.
Sun, glare and heat
West and south windows that put the sun on the television and turn the room into an oven by four o’clock. You want the light cut and the view kept.
Common mistakeChoosing 10% because it looks open in the showroom, then still squinting at four o’clock.
Privacy
Street-facing rooms, bathrooms, a kitchen that looks straight at the neighbour. You want to stop being seen without living in the dark.
Common mistakeAssuming a screen that is private by day is private at night. It is not, and that is the call we get most.
Blackout, for sleeping
Bedrooms, a baby’s room, anyone working nights. You want dark at seven in the morning in June, not dim.
Common mistakeOrdering blackout inside the frame, then finding a line of light down both sides.
Plenty of windows need two of these. A bedroom facing west wants a solar screen for the afternoon and a blackout layer for the morning. That is one window and two products, and it is why we quote per opening rather than per room.
